General Assembly of Emberá Querá: Unanimous Re-election of the Noko for the 2025–2030 Term

On May 1st, 2025, the Emberá Querá community held its General Assembly—an essential event for practicing internal democracy and exercising the right to self-determination as an Indigenous people. During this important gathering, the community selected its traditional authorities for the 2025–2030 period. Remaining under the leadership of Elvin Flaco ( I Noko), Atilano Flaco S (II Noko), Climaco Dogirama (Fiscal), Frigelio Achito (Vocal), Militza Flaco ( Tesorera) y Yohana Dogirama ( Secretaria).

In a show of unity and collective agreement, community members unanimously re-elected the current Noko (traditional leader), recognizing his continued commitment, leadership, and dedication to the well-being of the community and the preservation of Emberá culture.

The General Assembly not only reaffirms our ancestral traditions and values, but also strengthens our community organization and shared vision for a sustainable future rooted in our identity.

From Emberá Querá, we thank all participants and renew our commitment to the cultural, social, and tourism development of our community.

Thank you for sharing this experience on the 18th Anniversary

As we close out this special day, we want to thank each and every one of you for being a part of this beautiful journey and experience in celebrating the community. The Embera Quera Anniversary is not just a celebration of time, but a testament to the strength, culture, and unity that unites us all. Let us carry the spirit of today forward, appreciating the traditions, stories, and community that make us who we are. May we continue to honor and uplift one another in the years to come. Here’s to many more celebrations of our heritage, our love, and our future together. God first we will see you in 2026, hoping that we can bring together many more people who wish to share the experience with the community through their dances, music, gastronomy, and ancestral games that are shared every January 7th of each year.

Finally, we also thank our brother Abel Aronategui for believing in culture, the collaborators of the U.S. Embassy for supporting us with their visits, and the Deputy of Colón, H.D. Víctor de Jesús Castillo and his team for believing in indigenous tourism and its development.

This January 12, 2025, we are preparing to celebrate the 18th Anniversary of the founding of the community, an event that takes place every year, where the main intention is to share the cultural, gastronomic and sporting experience with everyone who wants to live this adventure.
