Gastronomy, Games and Culture at the 19th Anniversary of the Embera Quera community.
On Sunday, January 18, 2026, the Emberá Quera community proudly celebrated its nineteenth anniversary with a vibrant cultural event that brought together community members, visitors, and local authorities. The day was marked by the richness of ancestral traditions, with the performance of ancestral games that preserve the identity and wisdom of the Emberá people.
As a central part of the celebration, a cultural gathering took place featuring performances of traditional Emberá dances and music, a folk group, the congo drum, and dances from the Guna and Ngäbe communities. Participants wore traditional clothing and shared oral histories that convey their people’s worldview. An Emberá-style buffet was also offered, highlighting ingredients and preparations characteristic of their ancestral cuisine.
The artisan fair was another highlight of the event, with a wide exhibition and sale of pieces made using techniques passed down through generations, such as baskets woven from chunga fiber, seed necklaces, and wood carvings.
The celebration not only strengthened community ties but also highlighted the Emberá Quera community’s commitment to preserving and sharing their culture with the world.
We thank everyone who took the time to share this special day with the community.
